Former bosses or supervisors
Colleagues or team members
Mentors or coaches
Professors or teachers
What Info Should I Give My References?
Make it easy for them to sing your praises. Give them:
A copy of your resume
A brief summary of the job you're applying for
Any specific skills or experiences you want them to highlight
How Do I Ask Someone to Be a Reference?
Just ask! You can say something like:
" Hey [Reference Name], I'm applying for [Job] and I'd love for you to be a reference for me.
Would you be comfortable vouching for my skills and experience? "
That's it! Easy peasy. Now, go forth and gather those references!
